What Customers Say About D-Link DP-301P+ 10/100TX 1-Centronic Port Print Server:

Maybe I should give it a four star, because you may not need it at all. And it is an expensive unit (about $60). It lacks a hardware RESET button. For example, if you set a password, and then forget it, it will never ever be recovered, and you cannot change its configuration forever.

Tried on 2 Windows 7 machinesInstalled using the setup program but nothing actually printed from the machine I installed from.On a second machine could be detected as a network printer but couldn't connect to it.Support site requires registration but once that is done fails to redirect so impossible to raise problem with D-Link

My network card in my printer recently stopped working. Instead of changing the internal network card, I decided to get this print server instead and installed it and worked like a charm.

In my experience, most routers (wireless or wired) use a default IP address of 192.168.1.1, so the IP address for the print server will need to be changed. The included instructions guide you to accessing the print server device - a few hoops to jump through but once you're there you can easily change the default IP address and you'll be able to access it directly in the future. It was up and running in less than 15 minutes. Others have referenced the list of compatible printers; here is a link to that list:[.].I have a Lexmark E series and it is working just fine.

I installed the wireless router first, then added the printer. The default IP address for this device is 192.168.0.1, and all computers on your network must share that IP scheme to use the printer connected to this print server. Note the next-to-last number in the IP address is pre-set to zero; it must match that of the existing network (in my example, the number 1). My network consists of WinXP and Win2000 machines. I purchased this print server and a new wireless router when my old combo wireless router/print server died.

However, I am familiar with network protocols and addressing schemes, and I can see where those without such knowledge might have problems. Be sure to follow the directions exactly when creating the new printer port on your computer, particularly where you have to define the LPR Queue name.

I highly recommend this product. I have used this product for over two years, completly trouble free on my HP Deskjet printer. Very useful to get new life out of older printers with the Centronic/parallel only interface adding them to your network untethered to a computer. The documentation is excellent and easy to follow, making the install a simple process. The D-Link DP-301P Print Server is an excellent product. This my second purchase of this product and it is reliable, compact, fast, and easy to set-up, with flexible options, especially in IP addressing. I purchased the second device when I was able to get a excellent deal on an older HP Laserjet 6P printer, and it installed flawlessly, and works with both XP and Vista.
